NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Cold air is widespread across the region to start off the 2025 new year with below-freezing temperatures for nearly all with mostly dry air despite some wispy passing clouds and low-level clouds out east, but places like Wolf Creek, as well as Clovis to Las Vegas, have been dealing with freezing mist. The slight southern nudge in the jet stream is responsible for this brief cooldown before a warming ridge of high pressure to the south will briefly warm things back up after today.

With the uptick in low-level moisture in the Northern Mountains and the East Plains to the Highlands, light east-northeasterly winds are slowly pushing the patchy freezing fog and or low-level clouds slightly farther to the west-southwest, but later this morning, westerly downsloping winds, which will be a bit gusty for a few of the areas, will quickly dry things out once again. To start across the region from north-northwest to south-southeast, temperatures are in the single digits, teens, 20s, and 30s.
