NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Governor Michelle Lujan-Grisham is once again demanding action from lawmakers to do more to fight crime in the state. This time, she’s running ads, hoping it will get the public to also put pressure on them.

The governor posted an ad on her X page Thursday a little more than two weeks until the 60-day session begins. She said that laws need to change and urged people to call their lawmakers and tell them to tackle crime.
“We want to make sure that those voices are heard and that the constituency’s concerns and the real-life struggles that they’re enduring are brought to the forefront so that these very important problems can be addressed,” said Benjamin Baker, Public Safety Policy Advisor.
This is not the first video. The governor’s frustration keeps growing, especially after a special session this summer where lawmakers ignored her pleas for action, and didn’t pass any of her eight bills that would have addressed a list of problems, including criminal competency standards and mental health treatment.
