Cooler temperatures return after strong winds today

A storm system passing over to our north brought high winds and blowing dust across the state today. Even warmer temperatures moved in with the winds as well, with record high temperatures broken across many locations across the state. A cold front will move in from the northwest tonight, beginning a cooling trend that will continue through next week. Breezy, but lighter winds and cooler temperatures will be in place for Sunday. Some light snow will also be possible early Sunday morning in far northeastern New Mexico.

Next week’s weather get’s a lot more interesting. Monday and Tuesday will be a quiet, but cooler days across New Mexico. A winter storm will begin moving in by late Tuesday afternoon, moving from north to south across the state. A gusty east canyon wind will develop in the Albuquerque Metro Tuesday evening as well. Temperatures get even colder on Wednesday as snow levels drop to valley floors, with almost all of New Mexico seeing high temperatures in the 30s. Light snow is also expected to fall all the way down into southern New Mexico and the Mexican border Wednesday morning. Snowfall totals from this first round will be light to moderate, with the heaviest totals in the northern mountains and east-central New Mexico where 1″ to 4″ will be possible.
