During a recent Senate session, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) addressed the ongoing bipartisan negotiations on the National Security Supplemental, emphasizing the progress achieved in talks that began two months ago.
Senator Schumer highlighted the commitment of Senate Democrats and President Biden to collaborate with Republicans in reaching a comprehensive agreement.
“We’ve come a very long way since talks began two months ago, and Democrats remain committed to working in good faith on reaching an agreement,” Senator Schumer stated, acknowledging the complexity of negotiations on border security.
The New York senator added, “It’s not just what we do that matters, but how we do it.”
Despite the optimism, Senator Schumer cautioned that certain issues related to border security still require resolution, emphasizing that negotiations are ongoing.
“Negotiations are not done yet; Democrats remain serious about finishing the job,” Senator Schumer asserted.
The New York Democrat underscored the global implications of the negotiations, linking them to the future of the war in Ukraine, the security of Western democracy, and the well-being of allies in the Indo Pacific.
