In an announcement made January 25, 2024, Governor Kathy Hochul is proposing a major expansion in hate crimes statute and over $60 million in funding for at-risk groups. Highlighted in her State of the State address, the Governor’s proposal will expand the list of charges eligible to be prosecuted as hate crimes.
