Gov. Hochul nominates new superintendent for New York State Police

The New York State Police has a new superintendent.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced her nomination of Steven G. James to serve in the position Wednesday.

He has served with the New York State Police for more than 32 years, including more than two decades in multiple leadership roles.

He most recently served as deputy superintendent for employee relations and has also served in other positions like assistant deputy superintendent, major, captain, and lieutenant, among others.

The Senate still has to approve Hochul’s nomination, so James will lead the New York State Police in an acting role until then.
