Santos taunts House GOP after Mayorkas bill fails: ‘Miss me yet?’

Former Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) taunted House Republicans online after a vote to impeach Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas failed.

“Miss me yet?” Santos posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, along with a photo of the failed resolution results inside the chamber, where the bill received a 214-216 vote.

Santos was expelled from his position in the House in December, just weeks after the House Ethics Committee released a damning report that said there was “substantial evidence” that the New York congressman committed serious federal crimes.

His departure left the House GOP conference with one fewer lawmaker in its already slim majority. And on Tuesday, one Republican, Rep. Steve Scalise (La.), was absent for the impeachment vote.

There are now 219 Republicans and 212 Democrats in the House, with four vacancies.

New York will hold a special election on Feb. 13 to fill the seat vacated by Santos.

Four Republicans joined the entire Democratic caucus to vote “no” against a GOP-backed bill that attempted to impeach Mayorkas.
