New York Governor Kathy Hochul recently provided an update on NY1 about the severe weather expected in the state. A winter storm is forecasted to bring over a foot of snow to the Mid-Hudson Region, potentially causing hazardous travel conditions during Tuesday’s morning commute. This is the first significant snowstorm in three years, and Governor Hochul stressed the importance of vigilance and preparedness.

In anticipation of the storm, the state has implemented several precautionary measures. Over 1,800 plows are prepared for deployment, and additional equipment and personnel are being mobilized throughout the City, Long Island, and the Mid-Hudson area. Furthermore, over 6,400 utility workers are on standby due to the risk of heavy snowfall causing power outages.

Governor Hochul noted that snowfall predictions for New York City have increased from six to eight inches to over 10, indicating that the situation is worsening. As part of the state’s preparedness efforts, a ban on tandem trailers and empty trucks on certain highways has been implemented. The state is also working with local law enforcement and emergency responders to ensure safety.
