During the Super Bowl weekend, New York State Police arrested 139 people for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). This was part of a special STOP DWI traffic enforcement campaign from February 9 to February 11, 2024. The campaign involved increased patrols and sobriety checkpoints to catch impaired drivers. The Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee funded the initiative, with local law enforcement agencies implementing it.

State Police issued 6,876 tickets during the campaign for various violations, including speeding, distracted driving, seatbelt violations, and Move Over Law violations. The campaign also led to the investigation of 245 crashes, injuring 37 people. However, no fatal crashes were reported.

The campaign targeted not only DWI arrests but also speeding and aggressive driving. The total tickets issued included 2,180 for speeding, 192 for distracted driving, 231 for seatbelt violations, and 58 for Move Over Law violations.

In comparison to the previous year’s Super Bowl, the State Police issued 8,311 tickets and arrested 141 people for DWI, indicating a slight decrease in 2024.
