OSWEGO, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — SUNY chancellor John King Jr. announced on Wednesday, Feb. 13, that New York State funding is coming to SUNY campuses to address student mental health needs.
New York State committing ten million dollars to expand these mental health services on SUNY campuses. This funding will help provide around-the-clock support to all students especially as they face new challenges post-pandemic.
State of the State: Hochul targets mental health
Chancellor King, Jr. visited SUNY Oswego to express the tremendous need for these programs stating, “Unfortunately anxiety, depression, grief and stress are impacting college students at all-time highs. Without question, COVID exacerbated the mental health challenges we face on our campuses. According to the latest Healthy Minds survey approximately 40% of college students suffer from moderate or major depression and one in three college students deals with anxiety.”
