New York State Fair Director leaving position, interim director named

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Sean Hennessey, the director of the New York State Fair, announced on Friday, Feb. 16, that he is leaving the Fair for a new position.

Hennessey will be taking a job at the New York State Department of Labor. He served as interim director for the 2022 NYS Fair and served as the permanent director in 2023.

“I’m incredibly proud to have directed the Fair since 2022 and to have been a part of the achievements realized during that time,” Hennessey said in a statement. “Over the past two years, the team at the Fair has successfully revived the complete Fair experience post-pandemic, helped fairgoers experience an unmatched variety of musical acts—some of which were record-breaking, launched new family-friendly exhibits and the inaugural Asian Village, and solidified the Fair’s established presence as a hub of entertainment, all while maintaining the Fair’s deeply rooted tradition in New York State agriculture.
