New York fireworks: Here’s what is legal heading into July Fourth

Certain types of fireworks have been legal in New York for years now. Here’s refresher on what’s allowed as the Fourth of July approaches. New York allows ground-based or hand-held devices that produce showers of colored sparks or a colored flame, audible crackling or whistling noises and smoke, according to the state Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services. Collectively, the items allowed under state law are known as “sparkling devices.”
