Harvey Weinstein Indicted on Additional Sex Crimes Charges in New York

Harvey Weinstein has been indicted on additional charges in New York, a prosecutor announced at a hearing on Thursday.

The former producer was not present for the hearing, as he continues to recover from emergency heart surgery at Bellevue Hospital.

Weinstein’s attorney, Arthur Aidala, told the court on Thursday that his client “almost died,” according to reports from the courthouse.

Weinstein, 72, is awaiting retrial on sexual assault and rape charges, after the New York Court of Appeals overturned his conviction in April. The Manhattan D.A.’s office had indicated that it would seek additional victims to testify at the new trial, though it remains unclear how many accusers he will face.

Weinstein was initially convicted in 2020 on charges of third degree rape and committing a “criminal sexual act,” and was sentenced to 23 years in prison. At that trial, three additional accusers were called to testify about their own allegations of assault to buttress the criminal charges.
