$14 billion in Medicaid payments lack proper verification, Comptroller’s audit reveals

New York state paid more than $14 billion on Medicaid home care services that lacked verification, according to the state comptroller’s office. The audit by New York Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli found between January 2021 and March 2023 Medicaid paid providers $31 billion for personal care and home healthcare services, but nearly half did not have the required verification that those services took place.
