Joe Rogan called the health insurance industry a “dirty, dirty business” during a discussion about the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson and the arrest of his suspected killer.

Luigi Mangione , 26, has been arrested and charged with Thompson’s murder, which was caught on video in New York. Mangione’s actions and his manifesto railing against the health insurance industry has sparked debate, as some have even come to the suspected murderer’s defense. Mangione was reportedly dealing with complications from a back surgery.

Rogan was joined on his Joe Rogan Experience podcast this week by filmmakers Quentin Tarantino and Roger Avary for a lengthy chat that mainly revolved around movies, but also touched on Thompson’s murder and the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

“I think this guy, if I had to guess, was some guy who got fucked over,” Rogan said of Mangione. “Apparently, that company is really bad at denying claims.”

Avary agreed with Rogan on health insurance companies denial rates being out of control. In an October report, Democrats on the U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations (PSI) claimed that UnitedHealthcare’s denial rate for post-acute care more than doubled from 2020 to 2022. The company reportedly denied about a third of claims, a higher rate than their competitors.
