The North Carolina Mountain Region has received a considerable amount of snow up to 8 inches in some areas. Some of these areas will receive an additional 2-4 inches today.
Haywood and Swain Counties in NC will receive that additional snow with a winter storm in effect. Wind gusts in these counties will reach 55+ miles per hour.

WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON EST TODAY ABOVE 3500 FEET…
* WHAT…Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches. Winds gusting as high as 55 mph.
* WHERE…High elevations of Swain and Haywood Counties, above 3500 feet.
* WHEN…Until noon EST today.
* IMPACTS…Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.
Instructions: A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel, keep a flashlight, food, water, and a warm blanket in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
