NORTH Carolina lawmakers have been reassessing the laws that govern homeowner’s associations after receiving many complaints from members.
The legislators reviewed the laws around homeowners associations, existing solutions for HOA violations, and what executive agencies were best to resolve complaints against the HOA.
“We’ve heard from hundreds of people that the HOA boards and board members have engaged in activities that should be concerning to those of us who represent these citizens,” said Representative Frank Iler in a meeting on January 11, reported NC Newsline.
Over the past few years, Iler has received many complaints from members across the 14,000 HOA and Property Owners Associations in North Carolina.
Even with the slew of reports, Iler said that advice on the matter has been limited.
“Hire a lawyer,” he said.
“That’s been our advice to a lot of these folks.
“And in my opinion, I’ve never thought that was quite good enough,”
HOA members spoke to lawmakers during the hearing about their experiences with the association.
