Charges upgraded to murder for NC man arrested on I-59 after victim dies in hospital

FORREST COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) – Charges have been upgraded for a North Carolina man who led Pine Belt officers on a high-speed chase Thursday. At the time of his arrest, 25-year-old Freddy Renteria was wanted in North Carolina for attempted first-degree murder. However, according to our sister station in that area, the victim of that crime later died while in the hospital. Her death upgraded Renteria’s charge to murder.
