WARRENTON, N.C. (WNCN) — Warren County Sheriff John Branche says every second counts when someone goes missing.
“The first 24 to 48 hours are so important. It is also important to know the missing person’s last known location,” he said.
Time is critical, but he says a cell phone can make a difference in being found.
“The importance of sharing your location is not getting into someone’s business. You really need that information to help with cases,” he said.
The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons currently shows 1,132 missing persons cases in 2024. It also shows that 69 of those cases are active. One of those is Dana Mustian from Warrenton .
“She has been missing for two months and we want to make sure that she’s not going to be pushed to a cold case,” said Megan Mustian.
Mustian’s sister-in-law disappeared in Warren County in November.
“It gets tougher as the days go by,” she said.
Dana was last seen at her home in Warrenton on November 30 and missed her daughter’s sixth birthday a few days later.
