NHC: Tropical Storm Gordon spins in Atlantic, system off Florida could bring Southeast flooding

Tropical Storm Gordon is spinning in the Atlantic and a disturbance northeast of Florida could bring coastal flooding and flooding rains to parts of the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic coast, according to the National Hurricane Center’s latest advisory Sunday.

Tropical Storm Gordon is over the open waters of the Atlantic. Gordon is expected to weaken to a tropical depression later today and could degenerate into a remnant low at any time during the next few days.

The system off the southeastern coast could become a subtropical or tropical storm during the next day or two if the associated front dissipates and showers and thunderstorms become sufficiently organized.

The NHC puts the chance of formation of the system at 50 percent over the next 48 hours and 50 percent over the next seven days.

Regardless of tropical or subtropical development, the low is likely to bring gusty winds, heavy rains with the potential for flash flooding, coastal flooding, and dangerous beach conditions to portions of the U.S. Southeast and Mid-Atlantic coast during the next couple of days, the NHC warns.
