The 10 Drunkest Cities In North Carolina For 2024

Is there anything wrong with being called the drunkest city in your state? Addiction plagues every state in America on some level, and North Carolina is no exception.

Over 15 percent of all North Carolinians over 18 binge drink at least once a month, with the most active drinkers bingeing over four times a month.

Nearly 70 percent of people who die from excessive alcohol use in NC are males, with the majority of those men being over 35 years old.

RoadSnacks decided to explore which cities in the state hold the title of “drunkest” based on a few interesting criteria.

They looked at the number of bars, pubs, and liquor stores per capita, along with social media activity related to drinking. And for fun, they threw in the local divorce rates, as studies suggest a correlation between heavy drinking and higher divorce rates.

Here are North Carolina’s top 10 drunkest cities:

  1. Carolina Beach tops the list with its abundance of bars, making it a hotspot for both locals and tourists. Its high divorce rate also hints at the consequences of its party lifestyle.

    • Bars per capita: 1st
    • Liquor stores per capita: 9th
