Mountain Mission gathering items for North Carolina hurricane victims

CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) — The Charleston Mountain Mission is continuing efforts to help those affected by Hurricane Helene in western North Carolina.

All work-week long, people can drop-off essential items at the Mission that were lost to the storm between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The organization started collecting donations last Thursday with the hope of giving the same support to those in need as West Virginia received after the devastating 2016 floods.

“You know in 2016, a lot of people stepped up and helped Mountain Mission, helped the greater Kanawha Valley. Nine counties across West Virginia were affected, we lost 23 West Virginians and people stepped up and helped us. This is our opportunity to step up and help our neighbors in need,” Mountain Mission Executive Director John Roberts said.

Roberts also said that things most commonly requested are chainsaws, small portable generators and foot fungus cream for the amount of high-water people come in contact with.
