Sub-Freezing Temperatures Tonight Could Damage Plants & Crops
11/12/24 5:22pm EST
Good evening everyone. With our front long gone and well-offshore, cool high pressure is settling in and will make for an unseaonably cold night tonight across parts of the Mid-Atlantic.
Clear skies and light winds will help with the radiational cooling, and temperatures are expected to drop below freeezing in areas of Virginia and North Carolina. For this reason, the National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for overnight tonight in parts of central and south-central Virgina.
Frost advisories extend downward into North Carolina and will also prove to be a hazard for late season crops and plants. Increasing clouds tomorrow night will provide an “atmospheric blanket”, keeping temperatures from dropping below freezing a second night in a row.
The next chance to see some frost or freeze conditions will be Saturday night with a similar setup after our next system passes through and high pressure settles in.
