Blog: Feeling like spring again with rain on the way

The unseasonal warmth continues for our Sunday as we await the arrival of our next dose of rainfall tonight — a bit of a wacky weather weekend in December, but one we can enjoy because the daylight hours prove dry. So get out and enjoy, especially considering winter’s chill returns the first few days of 2025!

As the warm front pushes well to our north this morning, the warm breeze will pick up throughout the day. Out of the south, it could easily gust to over 25-30mph by the lunch time hours. That warm, blustery breeze in combination with just some passing clouds throughout the day will make reaching 70° easily possible. A couple spots across town can reach the low 70s!

Approached from the west, however, is the trailing cold front with this dynamic system. Ongoing thunderstorms and severe weather with the system will focus across the southeast U.S. and central North Carolina. By later this afternoon, a broken line of showers and thunderstorms should approach the I-95 corridor.

Fortunately, Hampton Roads and northeast North Carolina is on the outer fringes of the severe weather threat, so by the time the rain makes it into our area, it should really be just that, rain. We can expect a broken line of showers with a few rumbles of thunder after sunset and into the late night hours.
