Ohio Senate President Matt Huffman is hoping to avoid being asked about his knowledge of school funding in Ohio as part of a lawsuit challenging the state’s private school voucher system.
Huffman is appealing a Franklin County court decision requiring him to submit written answers to questions “on his knowledge of school funding in Ohio and his involvement in the enactment and expansion of the EdChoice program through Amendment Substituted House Bill 110,” according to court documents filed Jan. 22.
In asking that court to block a subpoena in the case, he claimed the Ohio Constitution’s “legislative privilege,” and argued his testimony “regarding his individual views about the EdChoice program and its implementation by the Ohio Department of Education are irrelevant to whether the program complies with the Ohio Constitution or not,” according to the motion he made last April asking the Franklin County court not to allow the deposition.
