Bill could mean more hope for local animals at shelter

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — A bill that could allocate $1.5 million to Animal Charity is heading to the Ohio Senate.

On Wednesday, Ohio House representatives passed House Bill 2 , which is a surplus of funds that will be donated to various initiatives across Ohio.

For Animal Charity, the funds would go to its new facility. The facility would have amenities like a food pantry, a grooming salon and an affordable vet care center.

Animal Charity is urging the Mahoning Valley to call Ohio senators to get the bill passed sooner rather than later.

“In some cases, like ours in Mahoning Valley, it’s life or death. Those funds are being used for a facility to be able to hold animals that are being abused and are suffering,” said Jane MacMurchy with Animal Charity.

According to Animal Charity of Ohio, it will take out a bank loan to cover the costs the house bill won’t be able to cover. If the senate delays or votes against the bill, the project could be set back years.
