Gov. DeWine orders flags lowered on Sunday

DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — Gov. Mike DeWine has ordered all U.S. and state flags be flown at half-staff on May 5.

All flags upon public buildings and grounds throughout the state of Ohio will be flown at half-mast on Sunday in honor of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service.

Why are Ohioans asked to switch lightbulbs in May?

This order is in effect from sunrise to sunset on May 5.

The National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service is an annual commemoration to honor career and volunteer firefighters who died in the line of duty. A memorial service is held at the national memorial located in Maryland.

This year’s tribute honors 89 firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2023 and 137 firefighters who died in previous years. Seventeen honorees are from Ohio. Click here for the full 2024 Roll of Honor.

The order to lower flags is in accordance with orders issued by President Joe Biden.
