BRONXVILLE, New York — When I first read JD Vance’s bestselling memoir, “Hillbilly Elegy,” in 2016, I did so in personal terms as a fellow Ohioan. From the start, Vance talks about feeling the need to leave the small Ohio town in which he grew up, and I thought of myself and my friends who have left Ohio to work elsewhere, at least for the start of our careers.
