Bridge connecting West Virginia and Ohio closes for a week on Monday for inspection

A bridge that connects West Virginia and Ohio will be shut down for an inspection for a week.

The Newell Bridge also known as the Wayne Six Toll Bridge shut down on Monday, September 16 at 6 am and plans to reopen to traffic by the weekend.

Officials say if they run into unforeseen circumstances requiring more work, the bridge will open once it’s safe.

The Newell Bridge Company said, “This project, as with all of the other regular maintenance we do, is done to ensure our customers have a safe way to cross the Ohio River for many years to come. As always thank you for your business, patience, and understanding during this inconvenient time.”

The Newell Bridge and Railway company operates the historic toll bridge connecting Newell, WV, and East Liverpool, OH, known locally as The Newell Bridge. The bridge has been in operation since July 4, 1905.
