Ohio Supreme Court Justice Melody J. Stewart will be the keynote speaker Tuesday at the second annual John Brown Institute Fall Lecture in Akron.
Stewart, the first African American woman elected to the high court in Ohio, will speak on the theme of “Liberty and Justice for All: The Powers of Reading, Writing and the Law.”
The inaugural speaker, Dr. Hasan Kwame Jeffries, associate professor of history at Ohio State University, will return this year as emcee of the program.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. at City of Joy Enrichment Center, 610 W. Exchange St., Akron, with the event to begin at 6:30. Light refreshments will be served.

There are two new ticket options that include a meet-and-greet with the special guests between 5 and 6 p.m. and a copy of the Christopher Cross book “Beat the Drum for Justice,” a historical novel about abolitionist John Brown. A patron ticket is $125 and a company sponsor ticket is $500.
