Funding awarded to Ohio organizations to prevent overdose deaths

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — The battle against drug addiction and death in Ohio is getting a big boost.

The fourth round of state opioid and stimulant grant funds are making their way to local nonprofits. The organizations are using the funds to continue their mission to help prevent and decrease overdose deaths throughout Ohio.

William Perry, with This Must Be the Place, notes he got the call just two days ago that his organization would be receiving over $140,000. He understands this money gives them the capabilities to truly reach people.

“This money was lifesaving to us,” Perry said. “We weren’t sure what was going to happen after the first of the year. We were up against the wall where our current funding was running out. And we were unsure what the future held.”

$100 million coming from the federal substance abuse and mental health services administration will be distributed across Ohio. Hanad Duale, President of UNIK foundation believes this money gives them much needed resources to prevent and further decrease opioid overdoses.
