A Merry Christmas on our dime
Re “Ohio elected officials could get a pay increase. How much?,” Dec. 9: State Rep. Bill Seitz says inflation is outstripping the increases that the lawmakers put into place in 2018, which gives them a good case to put larger pay hikes in place for the next 10 years.
If only I could create my own percentage of pay raise due to inflation or do something about property taxes and school funding.
Instead of figuring out how to provide relief to constituents on fixed incomes much smaller than the $71,000 to $196,633 annual salaries of elected officials who would receive the 5% raises, he says they might as well do it before they go home for Christmas.
Well, at least elected officials will have a Merry Christmas.

The shame is not on Joe Biden
The headline over Rex Huppke’s Dec. 8 column Dispatch read: “Biden’s shameful decision only helps shameless Trump .”
The problem with this is that Donald Trump will continue his shameless ways regardless of what anybody does, including President Joe Biden.
