Ohio State Highway Patrol urges planned travel and designated drivers this New Year’s Eve

ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio (WTRF) — With New Year’s parties coming up this weekend, it’s important to stay safe while traveling to see friends and family.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol encourages people to plan ahead, account for an increase in traffic, and have a designated driver if they decide to drink.

Sargent Rocky Hise says he hopes folks at home enjoy the holidays but encourages them to celebrate safely.

Give yourself plenty of time to get from point A, where you’re coming from, to point B, where you’re going to. If you plan on drinking or celebrating with your friends and family, plan ahead, use a DD, or get a ride to get you home safe.”

As a reminder, it is illegal to drink and drive, and highway patrol has a zero-tolerance policy.

If you are caught drinking and driving, you will be arrested.
