ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio (WTRF) — Hourly employees in Ohio will be getting a raise, as the state minimum wage will be increasing for the new year.
Every year since 2006, the state minimum wage in Ohio has increased according to the rate of inflation, allowing wages to rise for employees.
Ohio’s minimum wage is tied to the Consumer Price Index over the 12-month period prior to September.
From September 1, 2023, to August 31, 2024, the consumer price index increased by 2.4 percent.
The minimum wage will rise from $10.45 per hour to $10.70 per hour for non-tipped employees, a total raise of 25 cents.
“I think an increase to the standard wage is always good. I’d like people to understand that minimum wage jobs, in my opinion, are not to be lived upon. They’re not living wages. These are for young folks getting started, retirees like I’ll soon be, wanting to go out and get a job and just have some extra spending money. It should help with the amount of increase that’s coming. It should not harm businesses. It’s a minimal amount. They should be able to recoup that. And it will absolutely help with expenditures for the individual. With the cost of things today, any little bit helps.”
