In the name of eliminating “liberal bias” at public colleges, Ohio lawmakers are instead undermining higher education with their latest proposal. The recently introduced Senate Bill 1 wants to require state universities and colleges to, among other proposals, slash diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and limit what professors can say on certain “controversial” topics. But this bill suppresses what higher education is all about: the freedom to learn and express oneself, exposure to a variety of viewpoints, and opportunity for everyone.
