Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt said he is supporting Texas’ decision to continue installing razor wire at the southern border, despite a Supreme Court ruling that federal agents can cut the wire down.
In response to videos of the Texas National Guard preparing to install more razor wire, Stitt posted on X, formerly Twitter, that “Oklahoma stands with Texas.”
A lawsuit was filed in October by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton to prevent the Homeland Security Department and other federal entities from seizing or destroying the wire barriers. But the Supreme Court ruled Monday that federal agents can continue to take down the wire — installed on the Texas side of the Rio Grande near Eagle Pass to prevent migrants from crossing the border — while the lawsuit continues.
This didn’t deter members of the Texas National Guard from continuing to put up the wire.
“This is not over,” Abbott said in a social media post after the high court’s 5-4 ruling. “Texas’ razor wire is an effective deterrent to the illegal crossings Biden encourages. I will continue to defend Texas’ constitutional authority to secure the border and prevent the Biden Admin from destroying our property.”
