Helping previous offenders stay out of prison

The Oklahoma Department of Corrections (ODOC) has started a new plan to give tablet computers to state prisoners.

Made possible through a partnership with Securus Technologies, the goal is to help inmates with their rehabilitation and lower the chances of them going back to prison.

More than 21,000 inmates at over 20 facilities have received tablets that give them access to books, college classes, music and even a way to communicate with their families.

What will tablets be used for?

By giving tablets to people in prison, the ODOC hopes to help them with learning, finding jobs, and staying in touch with their families.

The introduction of tablets in the correctional system has shown promising results in other states, and Oklahoma hopes to replicate these successes.

Books, legal documents, and other resources

Through tablet programs in correctional facilities, inmates now have access to a wide variety of resources that contribute to their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
