Arby’s clears lunch debt for Oklahoma students in Edmond, Clinton

The Arby’s Foundation donated $1 million to help pay off school lunch debt nationwide, including at two schools in Oklahoma.

In the U.S., 30 million students cannot afford their meals with over $19 million in unpaid meal debt.

The Arby’s Foundation donated $1 million to pay off school lunch debt for over 47,000 students at 762 schools across the country, according to a press release.

In Oklahoma, Edmond Public Schools received $27,095 from the Arby’s Foundation, paying off lunch debt for 2,643 students, KFOR reported.

In December, the Clinton Public Schools Facebook page reported that the district received over $21,000 from the foundation, wiping out lunch debt for 433 students.

“Childhood hunger is something that no one should ever have to face, and school lunch should be a time that kids look forward to without worrying if they’ll have a meal that day,” Stuart Brown, executive director of the Arby’s Foundation, said in the release. “We’re honored to partner with so many local school districts to help those students enjoy lunchtime with their classmates and ease the burden on parents.”
