Stitt names family physician to be new Cabinet secretary for health and mental health

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt named a new Cabinet secretary this week. On Thursday, Stitt tapped Dr. Corey Finch as secretary of health and mental health.

“To be a Top Ten state, we need to have a Top Ten health care system,” the governor said in a media statement announcing the appointment. “Dr. Finch will bring his experience as a physician and member of the Health Care Authority Board to my cabinet to improve health care outcomes for all four million Oklahomans.”

Finch succeeds Kevin Corbett, who was named to the post in 2020 but saw his confirmation stalled in the Senate.

Finch said the importance of the position can’t be overstated.

“This position touches some of Oklahoma’s most vulnerable populations,” Finch said. “I am eager to take on this role and continue to revitalize our health care systems while supporting Oklahoma’s trajectory toward being a happier, healthier state.”

As the the governor’s Cabinet secretary of health and mental health, Dr. Finch said he would work to ensure that Oklahoma’s health agencies are working to make sure Oklahomans have access to the care and attention they need.
