Oklahoma State University’s College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology (CEAT) and the OSU Center of Health Sciences have received a grant from the Masonic Charity Foundation of Oklahoma. The grant will be used to develop a Community Paramedicine Curriculum. This program will train paramedics in rural Oklahoma, making it both accessible and affordable. The curriculum will include around 200 hours of instruction and clinical experience, aiming to upgrade existing paramedics to community paramedics. This role will focus on long-term care for chronic conditions.

A significant portion of the curriculum will involve studying laboratory values. This will equip students with the skills to interpret diagnostic information effectively. They will also learn to use a portable Blood Analysis System, providing immediate lab results for patients at home. After completing the course, students can take the Community Paramedics Certification Examination by the International Board of Specialty Certification.
