Cheaper grocery bills are coming to all Oklahomans on Aug. 29. This date represents the culmination of years of work to deliver much-needed financial relief for Oklahomans.

For Americans, grocery shopping is a major expense. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, food ranks as the third-largest household expenditure, following housing and transportation. Any fluctuations in grocery prices have a profound impact on household budgets.

Unfortunately, prices at the grocery store are higher than ever. The average Oklahoma household spends over $5,700 annually on groceries. Everyone is feeling the strain of rising inflation, which has only been exacerbated by fumbling federal economic policies. Eggs now cost double what they did in 2019, while the price of white bread has increased 51%. But you don’t need statistics to tell you this — you have felt it firsthand.

In response to these economic challenges, the Oklahoma Legislature has delivered the largest tax cut in state history. To make a real difference for our constituents during a time of economic uncertainty and increasing financial strain, we eliminated the 4.5% state sales tax on groceries.
