Oklahoma Task Force 1 performing rescues in flooded Florida

TULSA, Okla. (KOAM) – Prior to the arrival of Hurricane Helene, Cat 4 Storm, Oklahoma Task Force 1 was activated and deployed to North Carolina.

In the last 48 hours they have moved further south into Florida as directed. The team is part of the FEMA National Urban Search & Rescue Response System , prepared to respond to natural and man-made disasters nationwide.

09-26-24 OKTF-1 left their staging areas in Pensacola and traveled all day to Orlando and arrived safely around safely around 5:00pm. The team encountered very strong winds and torrential rain while headed to Orlando. Believe it or not, their lodging was arranged at Disney World Resort. They weren’t there long before getting activated and ordered to respond to Treasure Island near Clearwater just after midnight.
