The general characteristics of many sphinx moths are similar, but, because over 70 species occur in Texas and Oklahoma, variation is to be expected. A few of the more unusual and rare sphinx moths from the Rolling Plains go largely unremarked and/or unreported because, at first glance, observers associate them with more common or different moths.
