TULSA, OKLA (KTUL) – The Sun has been quite active this week, sending highly charged particles towards Earth on the Solar Wind. When the particles reach Earth, they collect near the poles due to Earth’s geomagnetic field. If the particles are very highly charged, they sometimes can produce colorful lights in the sky. These lights are commonly known as the Northern Lights because they are much more prevalent in latitudes closer to the North Pole. But this week these colorful light displays have been seen as far south as Oklahoma and Texas.
