PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — Everyone’s least favorite question this time of year; have you filed your taxes yet?
This year, Oregon will be getting the biggest kicker in state history and it comes to almost everyone who paid Oregon state income tax for 2022.
Oregon’s tax revenue this year came in at $5.6 billion, nearly three times larger than the previous largest kicker just 2 years ago but you need to file your taxes this year to get that money.
The kicker will be about 44 percent of the amount you paid in taxes in 2022 and while experts recommend filing early, they don’t recommend rushing through the process.
A spokesperson for the Oregon Department of Revenue, Robin Maxey, says that rushing is the biggest mistake people make.
“We want to caution people against getting in a hurry,” said Maxey. “It’s important to submit an accurate return. Mistakes such as missing documents or receipts could delay the tax return therefore delaying your kicker.” E-file returns are accepted in the order they were received. On average, filers will get this return a couple weeks faster than paper filing.”
