As firefighters make progress on Oregon’s megafires, two new blazes burn homes, prompt evacuations

Two wildfires that started in Oregon last weekend continue to grow, prompting evacuations and destroying two homes. The 5,000-acre Elk Lane fire in Jefferson County and the 10,000-acre Town Gulch fire in Baker County both started over the weekend, drawing more than 300 firefighters total to battle the two blazes. Thirty-three other wildfires, including five megafires, are burning in Oregon, the Northwest Interagency Coordination Center reported on Wednesday.
