Bagby Hot Springs reopens after closure from Oregon wildfire

Bagby Hot Springs and Campground will reopen at 8 a.m. on Saturday for the first time since early August as the closures from the Sandstone Fire drop.

The fire burned 702 acres in the area but the hot springs were “not affected by fire thanks to the efforts of fire crews and favorable weather,” a news release from Mount Hood National Forest said in announcing the reopening.

The Sandstone Fire is currently 75% contained and being managed by local fire staff.

Bagby Preservation staff will remain onsite to manage operations and ensure safety as the hot springs reopen to the public. Bagby Campground is first-come, first-served and accepts cash or check.

There will still be a fire closure area around Sandstone Fire, but Forest Road 70 will reopen on Saturday morning. There could still be fire or road crews on the travel routes.
