Oregon awarded $42M for road repairs after severe weather

PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) – Oregon is set to receive over $42 million from the United States Department of Transportation to help repair roads and other infrastructure damaged by severe weather across the state.

The funding is part of the DOT’s $800 million nationwide package to repair infrastructure impacted by natural disasters and extreme weather, as first reported by the Oregon Capital Chronicle .

Oregon’s funding will go towards a handful of projects, including repairs from storms in 2019 through January’s arctic blast , the department announced Friday.

About $21 million of Oregon’s funds will go towards road repairs caused by storms in 2022 after significant rain caused flooding and landslides that threatened to block Interstate 84 and wiped-out part of Highway 101 , Oregon Sen. Ron Wyden said in a press release on Monday.

Another $11 million is dedicated to repairs from January’s ice storm , which downed trees and powerlines, and caused flooding and landslides. An initial state report on the Arctic blast estimated around $72 million in damage .
