Offshore Oregon wind energy auction postponed after Kotek calls for delay

PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — Plans to auction two wind energy sites off the Oregon coast were postponed amid “growing concerns” surrounding the projects.

While the federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management identified five companies that qualified to participate in the auction — giving them the opportunity to build floating wind turbines near Coos Bay and Brookings — officials said the auction was postponed because of a lack of bidders after one of the five companies expressed interest, BOEM said in their Sept. 27 auction update.

Even though the auction was postponed, BOEM said it will continue working with federal, state, local, and tribal representatives on future auction opportunities and said they will support Oregon’s efforts to create an Offshore Wind Energy Roadmap .

The roadmap was initiated under House Bill 4080 in the 2024 legislative session and requires the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development to lead engagement and development of the roadmap.
