3 Oregon homes made famous by movies featured in new documentary

A new documentary exploring houses made famous by films told from the perspective of both the owners and people visiting them features a couple of homes in Oregon.

“The House From …” tells the story of the houses that appear in movies and TV series that often go on to become highly sought after destinations, turning into either a burden or a blessing depending on who owns them.

Three of the famous houses featured in the documentary are in Oregon. Here’s what to know.

‘The Goonies’ house in Astoria

Arguably the most famous home in Oregon, the house from “The Goonies” attracts thousands of visitors every year.

In the movie, the house plays a central role in the journey Mikey and his friends embark on to stop its foreclosure after finding a long-lost treasure map in the attic.

Since the film’s release in 1985, owners of the home have had to deal with constant visitors hoping to see it.

The owner of the home for the last few decades tolerated the constant influx of people at first, but eventually tired of the visitors after a surge during the 30-year-anniversary led to them putting up several no trespassing signs and blue tarp along the exterior of the home.
